The renovated space is to house faculty offices for the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) program. The ISyE program has been recently established as an independent unit within the Institute of Technology. The renovated space will provide continguous space to ISyE faculty who are currently housed in various parts of the Mechanical Engineering Building. It will also enhance the visability of the ISyE program giving it distinct physical presense on campus. The renovated space will offer opportunities for the program to publicize its research and educational activities and to showcase the accomplishments of its faculty, students and alumni.
Demolition and new construction will occur entirely throughout level 1, including the existing hallway. The office space will consist of seven new offices, an entry, a mechanical chase and a reception area. The hallway renovation will include new finishes and a curved wall separating it from the offices that will allow for signage opportunities. Additionally, the curved wall opens up to connect the hallway to the offices during normal business hours.
The space is currently conditioned by permiter hot water radiation and air conditioning is accomplished by thru-the-window units. A new floor mounted hot and chilled water air handling unit will be installed on the basement level to serve the first floor. A new mechanical shaft will be installed from the basement thru first and second floor and terminate at the roof. The new mechanical shaft will be sized appropriatley to provide future HVAC distribution to the second floor if an additional air handling unit is purchased in the future, not in this contract.
Provide new chilled water supply and return piping connected to chilled water lines in Rapson Hall.
The existing electrical services appear to have capatity for the anticipated load of the remodeled area. Existing panelboards will be re-used to serve existing and new loads in the area. Existing lighting, power an signal devices will be demolished commensurate with the architectural demolition in the area. Electrical services feeding existing loads will be maintained. Any damaged circuits will be repaired/and or replaced.
Areas being remodeled shall receive new lighting fixtures. Dual level swithing and occupancy sensors will be incorporated in each office area.
A minimal amount of work will occur in room 246 above the project site. The new mechanical chase will impact the office door location, flooring and ceiling. A minimal amount of work will occur in room 40A in the basement of the link. As a result of 40A housing our new AHU a new door and vestibule is created to provide proper access to the mechanical space.
The contractor is expected to communicate and work in collaboration with representative from the following, but not limited to, University groups; Networking and Telecommunication, Sign Shop, Central Security, Energy Management, Building Codes, East Bank Facilities, CPPM, Mechanical Engineering department etc…
