Kaufert Lab Window Replacement

Project Overview
The St. Paul District Facilities Management office has identified the need to replace exterior windows at the Kaufert Laboratory which consists of 2 buildings: East Building (Classrooms) and west building (Shop). This building is occupied by faculty and graduate students along with lab research areas. The majority of the windows on the East Building are single-pane wood framed fixed-casement with severely deteriorated frames, sills, sashes and non functional window hardware. The majority of the windows on the West Building(Shop) are single-pane, wood framed fixed-hopper windows, covered by a wood screen wall anchored back to the mullions. Similar to the East Building, numerous windows, sashes, sills and hardware are severely deteriorated. Other window types such as horizontal sliding and double hung windows may also be found. The existing window frames are rotting and glass panes fall out when the window is opened. Many of the windows have been modified by building occupants to fit their own A/C unit. Due to the lack of energy efficiency, inconsistency of window types and safety concerns the St. Paul District office would like to evaluate replacement options and design an energy efficient window plan for the entire building per current University Standards.
