Project Overview
Coffman Memorial Union Building was constructed in 1939-1940. This is a four to seven stories building with a multiple roof levels. The exterior wall of the building was constructed of multiple wyths of solid masonry consisting of brick exterior and two withes of clay tile masonry backup walls. The clay tile backup wall of the building bears an either the concrete structural slab on the perimeter edge beams. The exterior brick wythe is tied to the clay tile backup with header course and dovetail steel ties at the perimeter spandrel beams. During 2001 renovation project, some of the exterior masonry wall had to be reconstructed due to corrosion of the steel lines.
