Valerie Riecke Smith has twelve years of experience in the design and construction industry. She has planned, designed, procured and managed the construction of public and private projects for federal and state agencies, universities, community colleges, and a Fortune 500 company. As a specialization in the construction field, she is well-versed on the application, implementation and effectiveness of public construction procurement policy and specifically of design-build. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in architecture from Georgia Tech, where she is specializing in the use of design-build in the public sector. She has been published multiple times on design-build in academic and trade journals and currently is teaching at Georgia Tech on construction economies. She also is sitting for architecture licensure in State of Georgia. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Graduate Certificate in International Development Policy from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Science in architecture and two undergraduate certificates in urban design and building construction from Georgia Tech.
